Kasr-ı Nehroz Hotel - Midyat

This summer place was used by one of the first Muslim families as home for 260 years in Midyat, where Syrian lived for centuries. 1200 years ago the summer place was built with its two bastions in style of a church and was used as Assyrian church for many years. In 1750 the Assyrians invited the Nehroz to Midyat to avoid the attacks of the tribes around. So the neighborhood and the house, where the Nehroz moved in, were called by their name.

After the Nehroz summer place had been used as home by the Nehroz (Yenigün) family throughout centuries, the place was renovated in 2009 in a regional architectural style as Kasr-ı Nehroz Hotel and opened its doors to new guests. In the room, where the women of the Yenigün family made butter in churns years ago, a lot of goods and accessories used by the family are displayed. The small children of that time who have today grandchildren played in the yard. During converting the summer place into Kasr-ı Nehroz special attention was paid to maintain the warm ambiance and home life.

Location: 

Midyat is 75 km away from Mardin airport, 170 km from Diyarbakir and 65 km from Nusaybin, the district of Mardin which is located on the border of Syria. The bus station in the centre of the town, the silversmith bazaar and the churches are in walking distance. Kasr-ı Nehroz is located in the midst of the famous stone houses of Midyat.
